The Importance of Using a Car Seat

Car seats in this day and age are not used nearly as much as they should be and a lot of times are not used correctly. Before you even think about taking that newborn home, you better have a child seat in the car and installed correctly. Infant and toddler deaths are rising because parents are not considering how important this issue really is. Most hospitals now require a nurse to inspect your child seat before you take your newborn home. However, after that initial day, it is the parent's responsibility to make sure the seat remains in the car and installed correctly.
There are many reasons why having this type of seat is important. First and foremost, is to protect your infant or toddler in the event of an accident. There have been many cases where a child is thrown from the car because they were not in their proper seat, resulting in death or serious injury. Death or serious injury can also occur if the child's seat is not properly placed in the car. Many parents do not do their research on how to properly install their child's seat. Sometimes they are often placed in the car facing forward when they should be placed facing backwards. A child has to be at least twenty pounds and at least a year old before facing their car seat forward in the car. All other children must be placed in the car with their seat facing the rear. Ignoring this rule could result in a fatal death or serious injury.
Another reason children should always be placed in a car seat is because it could be distracting to the driver or other drivers. This reason alone could cause a serious accident resulting in a fatal or serious result. Seat belts are not enough to keep your child safe. They must be in a child seat or booster seat that is placed properly in the vehicle.
In all fifty states, it is state law that children are to be in a car seat or booster seat. If a child is not in either, the parent will be in violation and can be charged or kept until someone can come pick up the child with a car seat.
